Family legacy
Shri Radha Mohan Mehrotra, (Great Grandfather) was an eminent and leading lawyer of Jaunpur. He was the first-generation lawyer of the Mehrotra clan. He specialised in all the branches of law. His practice, covering civil law, criminal law, and revenue law. He practised from 1901 to 1942, the year in which he passed away.
He was also conferred the title of Rai Bahadur by the state then.
Shri Baldev Ji Mehrotra was the second-generation lawyer in the family. He practiced law at Jaunpur from the year 1930 to 1995, till the year, in which he passed away. He started as a civil practitioner, however, soon he developed interest in criminal trials and rose to be the most famous criminal trial lawyer of eastern UP and had to his credit conducting cases of various Leading criminal trials in Jaunpur Azamgarh, Ballia, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Deoria and Mau.
Justice Gopal ji Mehrotra (Elder Grandfather) practised as a Lawyer before the Hon’ble Allahabad High Court and was elevated as a Judge of Hon’ble Allahabad High Court and then as Chief Justice of Assam High Court in the 1950’s and 1960’s
Justice Vijay Kumar Mehrotra (Father) practised as a lawyer in Jaunpur from 1954-1959, then shifted to Allahabad High Court in the year 1960, where he largely practised in civil constitutional on the state side and several corporations and was elevated as a Judge of the Hon’ble Allahabad High Court at Allahabad in 1978. He was transferred and took oath as the senior most judge of Himachal High Court, Shimla in the year 1988. During his stay at Himachal, he officiated as Chief Justice several times and retired as Senior Judge in the Year 1992. Whereafter, he was appointed as the Chairman of the UP-State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission from 1993 to 1997. He has to his credit leading Law Book Publications of the Law of Contempt and Laws of Electricity. He also penned a prose book “Happiness Mantra” out of his rich life experiences.
